Orange County CA Sheriff Easing Permit Regulations In Wake Of 9th Circuit Decision. - February 19, 2014

The Orange County sheriff loosened requirements Wednesday for obtaining a concealed-weapons permit in light of a recent federal appellate court decision that deemed many urban counties in California to be overly restrictive in saying who can and can’t carry a concealed weapon.

Local applicants seeking a permit to carry a concealed weapon now only have to say that they need one for self-defense or personal safety. Previously, applicants were required to prove 'good cause,' a standard that typically limited concealed weapons in Orange County to people who carry large sums of cash or valuables, or who could prove an existing mortal threat.

Connecticut Paper Calling For Searching Of Background Checks To Find Unregistered Items - February 14, 2014

A Connecticut newspaper has run an opinion piece calling for a search of background check records to find people who may not have registered with the state.

"Although willful noncompliance with the law is doubtless a major issue, it's possible that many gun owners are unaware of their obligation to register military-style assault weapons and would do so if given another chance."

"But the bottom line is that the state must try to enforce the law. Authorities should use the background check database as a way to find assault weapon purchasers who might not have registered those guns in compliance with the new law."

Louisiana Signs Supreme Court Brief Challenging NJ Gun Law - February 13, 2014

Louisiana thinks New Jersey's concealed carry gun laws are too restrictive, and it wants the U.S. Supreme Court and the nation to know.

In a petition filed with the Supreme Court this week, James "Buddy" Caldwell and the attorneys general from 18 other states, led by Wyoming's Peter Michael, are requesting the justices take a look at New Jersey's gun permitting laws, and determine whether they could contravene and threaten to undo those of other states.

Breaking: Ninth Circuit Court Rules California 'May Issue' Unconstitutional - February 13, 2014

The Ninth Circuit's decision in Peruta v. San Diego, released minutes ago, affirms the right of law-abiding citizens to carry handguns for lawful protection in public.

The Court ruled that a government may specify what mode of carrying to allow (open or concealed), but a government may not make it impossible for the vast majority of Californians to exercise their Second Amendment right to bear arms.

California DOJ Removes 28 Handguns From 'Approved' List - February 10, 2014

28 handgun models in common use were removed from the handgun roster by the California Department of Justice since January 28, 2014, and are now unavailable to gun buyers, reports Calguns. Of those, 22 are manufactured by Smith & Wesson, Inc.

However, California gun owners have reason to be optimistic, say the groups. In a major development, firearm manufacturers Smith & Wesson and Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc., have joined handgun maker Glock, Inc., in support of a federal Second Amendment civil rights lawsuit seeking to overturn the handgun regulation scheme commonly known as the 'handgun roster.'

The Calguns Foundation has issued a warning to all California gun owners over the illegal search and seizure of legal firearms and ammunition.

New York Firefighters Pushing Back Against SAFE Act - January 30, 2014

An eye opening viewpoint about the SAFE Act comes from local firefighters. They want to set the record straight.

Steve Sessler, volunteer firefighter, said, "To try and capitalize to push an agenda, especially for a politically ambitious governor, who is looking at the presidency. That doesn't sit well with me."

Craig Akins, former Webster Fire Chief, said, "The governor took it upon himself to use us as a pawn and I think most of us are not very happy about that."

AG Holder Confirms Obama Will Try To Push Through Gun Executive Orders - January 29, 2014

Attorney General Eric Holder said at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing today that President Obama is open to using an executive action to push through gun-control and/or associated mental health measures that haven't found approval in Congress.

Our resolve remains the same. My resolve is as firm as it was back then. And I think what we should also understand is that the vast majority of the American people still want those common sense gun safety measures that we advanced last year. Our commitment is real and we will revisit these issues

The president – it is his intention to again try to work with Congress, but in the absence of meaningful action to explore all the possibilities and use all the powers that he has to, frankly, just protect the American people

Connecticut Gun Owners Fail to Register; Officials Push 'Amnesty' - January 27, 2014

After Connecticut enacted one of the most draconian gun-control regimes in America, official estimates suggest that the overwhelming majority of the citizens targeted by the latest assault on gun rights failed to comply. Indeed, analysts say it appears that most people largely ignored the new statute, which purports to ban numerous non-registered 'assault' weapons and standard-capacity magazines. Now, despite resistance by the governor, state lawmakers are reportedly scrambling to come up with a possible amnesty plan allowing gun owners to register past the deadline.

Illinois Wants Potheads to Give Up Their Second Amendment Rights - January 24, 2014

Illinois is mulling a new medical marijuana law that would force pot users to sign away their right to bear arms.

Those who focus on the right to bear arms love to say, "what part of 'shall not be infringed' don't you understand," as a catch phrase to show that the founders did not want government to be able to sweep in and take away our rights to self defense. That phrase can be asked of Illinois legislators who are proposing that to get a medical marijuana permit citizens would have to relinquish their right to bear arms.

The plan would require pot users to be fingerprinted for a background check, they'd have to pay a yearly $150 permit fee, and they would be forced to give up their Second Amendment rights to be allowed to get pot.

Supreme Court Ruling Could Limit Radical Gun Control - January 22, 2014

The Supreme Court rarely takes up Second Amendment cases, so when it does, gun owners know their rights are in the cross hairs.

The Abramski ruling will be key to determining how far President Obama can push his gun-control agenda. Mr. Obama wants to expand background checks to include private transactions so that the government would know exactly who has a gun. That is not what the Founding Fathers intended.

Smith & Wesson To Stop Selling Handguns In California - January 22, 2014

Smith & Wesson announced it will stop selling its handguns in California rather than manufacture them to comply with the new microstamping law. The other publicly traded firearms manufacturer in the U.S., Sturm, Ruger, also said this month that it will stop new sales to California.

The announcement late Wednesday came a week after the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for firearms manufacturers, filed suit against California for requiring that all new semi-automatic pistols that are not already on the state's approved gun roster have the microstamping technology.
