This thread will be updated on a regular basis when new bills come in for Virginia.

Note: We will only post legislation we feel is negative or positive, those new bills which don't actually effect your rights will not be included but you can always find them on the state legislation page.

HB2 is a universal background check bill, it also prohibits the transfer of a firearm until the results of a background check are completed and requires background checks at ranges when renting firearms

HB9 would require all stolen firearms to be report to authorities within 24 hours of discovery

SB12 is a universal background check bill with very limited exceptions

SB13 would make it a crime to possess a firearm within Capitol Square

SB14 would outlaw all trigger activators, including bump stocks

SB15 would make it illegal to carry firearms into any building owned or leased by the Commonwealth where employees actively work

SB16 is an all out ban on 'assault weapons' including shotguns that hold more than 7 rounds, rifles with fixed magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, semi-auto pistols that can hold more than 10 rounds, a ban on any magazine that holds more than 10 rounds and outlawing suppressors

SB18 is a universal background check bill

SB22 would limit handgun sales to one per month

SB35 would allow local governments to regulate carrying firearm during 'permitted events'

SB51 would make it a crime to carry while intoxicated

HB264 would eliminate the options to take safety training for a carry license online or by video

HB192 would require anyone wanting to buy a gun take the same training that is required to get a concealed carry permit

HB260 would give more time to state police to return a response to a dealer for a background check

HB161 is a constitutional carry bill

HB162 would grant a 'waiver of sovereign immunity' to any state or local government agency that declares an area a gun free zone

HB224 is a constitutional carry bill

HB318 would make possession of a ammunition on school property illegal

HJR38 would commission a study on gun violence by the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission

HB426 would make carrying a loaded shotgun illegal in certain places

HB600 would allow local governments to enact laws pertaining to firearms and child care centers that are more stringent than state law

HB599 would make all building owned or leased by the commonwealth gun free zones

SB319 would require any property owners than bans carrying firearms to have security officers

SB240 would prohibit any person who is subject to a substantial risk order from owning firearms

HB459 would make people convicted of certain misdemeanor crimes prohibited persons

HB674 would create extreme risk protection orders

HB569 would roll back the state's acceptance of all other states concealed carry licenses

HB568 would require all firearm transported in a vehicle to be locked up in a container (not the glove box) and not accessible to those in the vehicle

HB425 would require gun dealers to report all transactions where more than 2 firearms are purchased by a person to the state police

HB463 would change law regarding leaving guns where children can find them to change the term recklessly to negligently

HB450 would make people that are appealing an involuntary admission order prohibited persons

HB427 would make it illegal to manufacture an undetectable firearm

SB263 would eliminate online and video training for concealed carry permits and only allow in person training

HB355 is a universal background check bill

HJR43 would create a commission to study persons who are under permanent protection orders that own fireams

HB421 would allow local governments to create their own firearm laws

HB853 would make it a class 4 felony to recklessly allow access to a firearm to a prohibited person

HB1312 would make it illegal to carry into any building owned or used by a local government for 'governmental' purposes

HB1382 would any local government that bans firearms in their buildings waive its sovereign immunity protection with regard to any civil claim for damages

SJR41 would use taxpayer money to create a commission to study gun violence

HB964 would allow those convicted of a violent felony to petition the state for their firearm rights to be restored by only after they have had their other civil rights restored by the governor and one year has passed since that restoration

SB543 would require all firearm sales at gun shows go through a background check, either by a dealer or state police

SB450 would prohibit local governments from prohibiting carrying firearms at public meetings

HB1083 changes language in the law regarding minors and firearms

SB505 would allow local governments to prohibit carrying firearms at public meetings provided they have security

HB960 would create additional taxes on firearms and ammunition

HB1079 would prohibit carrying firearms on Capitol Square, in any building owned or leased by the state government and in the legislative chambers

HB934 would back up local sanctuary city ordinances by stating people are allowed to possess any firearm or ammunition that was legal to own January 1, 2020 while in those communities. It would also prohibit the state from withholding funds from those communities.

HB961 is an 'assault weapon', high capacity magazine and suppressor ban

HB1502 would limit handgun sales to one per month

HB1487 would make gun safes, up to $1000 tax exempt

HB899 would make it illegal to own or sell any ammunition that isn't lead or lead cored

HB939 would require schools to offer classes in firearm safety

SB490 would make anyone convicted of certain misdemeanors a prohibited person

HB1080 would prohibit school boards from authorizing people to carry guns

HB1485 would prohibit restriction of local government employees from carrying if they have a carry license

HB856 would require anyone subject to a protective order to surrender their firearms within 24 hours of the order

SB615 would allow local governments to ban firearm in government buildings a public parks

HB1510 would outlaw carrying firearms into any building owned or leased by the commonwealth

SB581 would raise the age regarding leaving a firearm unsecured in a home with a child from 14 to 18 (regarding the child age)

SB614 would add Albemarle county to the places it's illegal to carry a loaded semi-auto rifle or pistol

SB781 would make it a crime to leave an unattended firearm in public or public view

SB436 would set up a voluntary do not sell list for firearms

HB750 would prohibit carrying firearms in public parks that serve alcohol

HB812 would limit handgun sales to one per month

SB372 would require anyone who is subject to a restraining order surrender their firearms within 24 hours

HB1004 would require anyone restrained by a protection order to surrender their firearms within 24 hours

SB479 would require anyone subject to a restraining order to surrender their firearms within 24 hours

SB506 would gut state preemption of local firearms laws

SB928 is an attempt to override future local regulation for firearms, ammunition and magazines

HB1499 would create a new fund to prevent gun violence

HB567 would outlaw indoor shooting ranges when there are 50 or more employees in the building, of which there is only one in the state, the NRA shooting range

SB950 would de-fund the governor's security staff if he signs any anti-gun legislation

HB1723 would make firearm safety devices tax free

HB1689 would render any new law that is in violation of the second amendment null and void

HB1687 would add a 15% tax on all firearm and ammunition sales to be used for a violence intervention and prevention fund
