HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 944
Commending Flint Hill Elementary School.

WHEREAS, in 2015 and 2016, Flint Hill Elementary School in Fairfax County celebrates 60 years of giving students the tools and support to develop a strong foundation for lifelong learning and to become responsible, successful members of society; and

WHEREAS, opened as a 10-room schoolhouse under principal Elizabeth Burke in 1955, Flint Hill Elementary School served children in the growing community of Vienna; additions in the 1960s doubled the school's capacity, and in the 1970s, the school welcomed students from Oakton; and

WHEREAS, Flint Hill Elementary School was recognized with an Excellence in Design award for its renovations in 1994 to incorporate a new library and media center, a computer center, a television studio, a parent and professional library, and a special room for language instruction; and

WHEREAS, using the Fairfax County Public Schools Program of Studies at each grade level, Flint Hill Elementary School honors each student's individual learning style and supports students' social development; and

WHEREAS, as a Positive Behavior Support school, the faculty and staff of Flint Hill Elementary School emphasize and reward respect and positive behaviors among the student body to ensure strong emotional and social growth, as well as exceptional academic achievement; and

WHEREAS, Flint Hill Elementary School has succeeded in its mission thanks to the dedication of its faculty and staff, the hard work of its student body, and the support of parents and the community; and

WHEREAS, Flint Hill Elementary School will commemorate its 60th anniversary with events throughout the year, and in 2016, it will open a time capsule that was sealed during the school's 50th anniversary year; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Flint Hill Elementary School on the occasion of its 60th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Salvador Rivera, principal of Flint Hill Elementary School, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the school's dedication to its students and service to the Fairfax County community.
