R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, William L. Jackson has been named chief of police
  for the City of Newton; and
         WHEREAS, A highly skilled professional, Mr. Jackson brings
  to his new role more than two decades of experience in law
  enforcement; he is currently a detective sergeant with the Fort
  Stockton Police Department, where he has served with distinction
  for the past 18 years; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Jackson holds a Master Peace Officer license and
  he is a Certified Firearms Instructor; since his graduation from
  the Kilgore Police Academy in 1992, he has completed more than 50
  law enforcement training classes, including courses in management,
  child abuse prevention, forensic science, gangs, and juvenile
  justice; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Buna, Mr. Jackson is upholding a family
  tradition in law enforcement; his father was a lawman, his brother
  is a Jasper police officer, his niece is a Texas Highway Patrol
  trooper, and his brother-in-law is a federal probation officer; and
         WHEREAS, William Jackson has demonstrated a strong
  commitment to excellence throughout his career, and the Newton
  Police Department is sure to benefit from his dedicated leadership;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate William Jackson on his appointment
  as chief of the Newton Police Department and extend to him sincere
  best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Jackson as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
