R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Deputy Sheriff Alexander Stevens Downs Jr. of the |
|
Nueces County Sheriff's Office lost his life in the line of duty on |
|
October 16, 1932, and his service and sacrifice will not soon be |
|
forgotten; and |
|
WHEREAS, Deputy Sheriff Downs was working at a dance when he |
|
confronted an intoxicated man who was causing a disturbance; the |
|
deputy walked away after talking to him, and the man shot him with a |
|
handgun, wounding him fatally; 23 years old at the time of his |
|
passing, Deputy Sheriff Downs was survived by his wife; and |
|
WHEREAS, Our state and nation benefit immeasurably from the |
|
courage and commitment of law enforcement professionals such as |
|
Deputy Sheriff Alexander Stevens Downs Jr., who willingly place |
|
themselves in harm's way each day to safeguard the lives and |
|
property of their fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and exemplary service of |
|
Deputy Sheriff Alexander Stevens Downs Jr. of the Nueces County |
|
Sheriff's Office. |
