SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 617
	WHEREAS, The H-E-B chain of grocery stores is marking a
	significant milestone in 2015 with the celebration of its 110th
	anniversary; and
	WHEREAS, Florence Butt began the H-E-B legacy in 1905 when
	she opened the C. C. Butt Grocery Store in Kerrville; her
	youngest son, Howard E. Butt, took over company operations in the
	1920s, launching new stores in Del Rio, Laredo, and other
	communities and creating the company's first supermarket in the
	1950s; currently, Charles Butt is the chair and chief executive
	officer of what has grown into one of the nation's most
	successful retailers, with more than 340 stores throughout Texas
	and Mexico and more than 85,000 dedicated employees; and
	WHEREAS, A good corporate citizen in the communities it
	serves, H-E-B contributes significant resources to a variety of
	public and charitable programs; last year, the company donated
	approximately 29 million pounds of food and nonperishables to
	food banks in Texas and Mexico; furthermore, the H-E-B Excellence
	in Education Awards program gives more than $740,000 annually to
	deserving educators and school districts; and
	WHEREAS, H-E-B has received the Texas Governor's Award for
	Environmental Excellence three times in recognition of
	company-wide efforts to promote conservation and efficiency; in
	2010, Progressive Grocer magazine named H-E-B the Retailer of the
	Year for its myriad achievements in the industry and for its
	significant community involvement; and
	WHEREAS, By creating jobs and helping to strengthen the
	economic prosperity of Texas, H-E-B has added to the vitality of
	the Lone Star State for more than a century, and it is fitting
	that the anniversary of its founding be recognized; now,
	therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th
	Legislature, hereby commemorate the 110th anniversary of H-E-B
	and extend to the company and its employees sincere best wishes
	for the future; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared
	for H-E-B as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
