Morris Chapman Taylor |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Morris Chapman Taylor, |
|
who died on February 17, 2015, at the age of 75; and |
|
WHEREAS, Morris Taylor was born on May 28, 1939, in Fulton, |
|
Kentucky; he attended high school in South Fulton, Tennessee, and |
|
earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of |
|
Tennessee, Knoxville and a master's degree in applied physics |
|
from the University of California, Los Angeles; and |
|
WHEREAS, He moved to Texas and completed his doctoral |
|
studies in nuclear physics at Rice University; he went on to earn |
|
his senior postdoctoral fellow appointment at M. D. Anderson |
|
Cancer Center, where he researched accelerator production of |
|
isotopes and both therapeutic and diagnostic radiation; and |
|
WHEREAS, A leading researcher in his field, Mr. Taylor |
|
published more than 25 articles in national magazines and |
|
professional publications, and he was awarded five patents |
|
related to his work in tomography and chemical reactions; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was a member of the Austin Jaycees in the |
|
mid-1970s, and he served as president and chief executive officer |
|
of several Austin-based companies, including Scientific |
|
Measurement Systems and Columbia Scientific Industries; he was |
|
an avid golfer and a member of Great Hills Country Club; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor was a loving husband to Glenda Ricker |
|
Taylor, and they were blessed with two children and three |
|
grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was known for his kind and gentle nature, and |
|
he was admired by his colleagues and friends; he leaves behind |
|
memories that will long be cherished by all who were privileged |
|
to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 84th |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Morris Chapman Taylor; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Morris Taylor. |
