R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Oliver Wendell Holmes High School in San Antonio |
|
celebrated the 50th anniversary of its founding during the |
|
2014-2015 school year; and |
|
WHEREAS, The school was opened in 1964 and named for Oliver |
|
Wendell Holmes Jr., associate justice of the United States Supreme |
|
Court from 1902 until 1932; the campus, noted for its distinctive |
|
circular architecture, serves around 2,800 students from Bexar |
|
County; part of the Northside Independent School District, the |
|
school is home to the Business Careers High School magnet program, |
|
and dual-credit courses are available through Northwest Vista |
|
College; and |
|
WHEREAS, Now under the able leadership of principal Ada |
|
Bohlken and vice principal Lisa Hahne, Holmes High School provides |
|
its students with the opportunity to participate in a wide range of |
|
extracurricular activities, offering Academic University |
|
Interscholastic League events in a variety of disciplines, |
|
including social studies, theater, band, computer science, |
|
journalism, and speech; the school also sponsors football, |
|
baseball, basketball, soccer, and track teams, and students produce |
|
the quarterly publication Gavel Magazine as well as daily news |
|
broadcasts for the Holmes/Business Careers Network; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of the last half-century, Oliver |
|
Wendell Holmes High School has given numerous area youths a strong |
|
academic foundation on which to build, and it has made a lasting and |
|
positive impact in the lives of several generations of San Antonio |
|
residents; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of Oliver |
|
Wendell Holmes High School and extend to its administration, |
|
faculty, staff, and students sincere best wishes for the future; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
