R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The 85th birthday of an esteemed Texan is indeed a
  momentous occasion, and Robert K. "Bob" Murphy of Houston is
  marking this significant milestone in his life on February 1, 2015;
  and
         WHEREAS, Born in Chicago in 1930 to Richard and Loretta
  Murphy, Robert Murphy was educated by the Jesuits at Loyola
  Academy; upon graduating, he answered his nation's call to duty by
  enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps, and he attained the rank of
  staff sergeant while serving his country during the Korean War; and
         WHEREAS, Following his military service, Mr. Murphy moved to
  Texas and embarked on a career in the insurance industry; he
  established a regional office in Houston while employed with the
  New England Life Insurance Company, and he later joined MassMutual,
  where he continues to work as a certified life underwriter;
  moreover, he is a member of the prestigious Million Dollar Round
  Table, an association of the world's leading life insurance and
  financial services professionals; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Murphy has been active in civic affairs in
  Houston, serving as a Republican precinct chair and as president of
  the Fonn Villas Civic Association; he was also a member of the
  Houston Jaycees and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo; a devoted
  congregant of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, he has served his
  community of faith in a number of capacities, including as
  president of the St. Cecilia Catholic School board; and
         WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Murphy has enjoyed the
  love and support of his wife, Joan Lee Murphy, for more than six
  decades, and the couple are the proud parents of five children, Mary
  Beth, Marilyn, Barbara, Kathleen, and Jim; with the passing years,
  their family has grown to include nine grandchildren, Christopher,
  Jonathon, Patrick, Nick, Katie, Robert, Pace, Ben, and Emma, and a
  great-grandson, James; in his leisure time, Mr. Murphy enjoys
  hunting and participating in shooting sports, and since 1950, he
  has observed two holidays with great zeal, St. Patrick's Day and
  the Marine Corps Birthday; and
         WHEREAS, Respected and admired by all who know him, Robert
  Murphy may reflect with great satisfaction on a lifetime of
  achievement, and it is a pleasure to join his many friends and loved
  ones in honoring him on this memorable occasion; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Robert K. Murphy on his 85th
  birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued good
  fortune and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Murphy as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
