R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, For more than four decades, the Friends of the |
|
Rockwall County Library organization has been the major advocate |
|
for the library and for the readers of Rockwall County; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 1972, Friends of the Rockwall County |
|
Library provides supplemental financial support to the Rockwall |
|
County Library and works to increase awareness of the institution's |
|
programs and services; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the years, the group has raised money with its |
|
Lunch Basket program and special events and from donations by its |
|
business partners; the funds have gone to ensure the continuation |
|
of existing programs and to purchase additional books, materials, |
|
and equipment not covered by the county budget; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since 2000, Friends has led the effort to finance |
|
and build a new county library building, and it has been the leading |
|
financial supporter of classes in GED, adult literacy, citizenship |
|
test preparation, and English as a Second Language (ESL); the |
|
organization has also purchased two new children's learning |
|
computers, a portable sound system, and a new white board, and it |
|
has contributed funds toward the expansion of the Large Print |
|
collection and toward the Summer Reading program, which reaches |
|
some 2,800 children, teens, and adults; and |
|
WHEREAS, Thanks in large part to the volunteers of the |
|
Friends of the Rockwall County Library over the past 43 years, the |
|
library in Rockwall County continues to thrive as a source of |
|
education, inspiration, and entertainment for its community; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend the work of Friends of the Rockwall |
|
Library and extend to the group's officers and volunteers sincere |
|
best wishes for continued success with their important work; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Friends of the Rockwall County Library as an |
|
expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. |
