R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
  of Jesus Maria Gamez III of San Antonio, who passed away on March
  20, 2012, at the age of 69; and
         WHEREAS, "Jesse" Gamez was born on August 2, 1942, in Crystal
  City to Jesus Maria Gamez, Jr., and Esther Varela; after graduating
  from Crystal City High School, he enrolled at Southwest Texas
  Junior College and later earned his bachelor's degree from
  St. Mary's University in San Antonio; he went on to study at the
  St. Mary's School of Law and passed the state bar exam and became a
  licensed attorney in 1968; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Gamez began his legal career by working in the
  office of well-known San Antonio lawyer Pat Maloney, then started
  his own private practice in civil and criminal law; his skill as an
  attorney brought him notable success, but he remained a dedicated
  champion of the less fortunate throughout his life; he also played a
  very active role in the Hispanic civil rights movement in South
  Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Always willing to extend a helping hand, he
  established a scholarship fund to aid students at the St. Mary's
  School of Law and did the same for high school students in Crystal
  City; he further assisted his hometown and the surrounding area by
  providing weapons training for the city's police force and for the
  Zavala County Sheriff's Department, a practice that stemmed from
  his hobbies of hunting and collecting firearms; the community paid
  tribute to his contributions by naming a migrant school in his
  honor; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he enjoyed the love and
  support of his wife, Diana Palacios Gamez, and he took great pride
  in his children, stepchildren, and grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, An accomplished professional who devoted himself to
  improving the world around him, Jesse Gamez will be deeply missed,
  but the generosity and dedication with which he lived his life will
  forever inspire all who had the good fortune to know him; now,
  therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jesus Maria Gamez III
  and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Diana Palacios Gamez; to his daughters, Ester Jean Gamez and
  Selina Gamez Maloney and her husband, Pat; to his sons, Jesus Gamez
  IV, Armando "Sonny" Garcia, and Rey David Garcia; to his
  grandchildren, Patrick, Connor, and Kyla Maloney and Adriana and
  Giselle Garcia; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jesus Maria
  Gamez III.
