R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Tammy Ellzey is retiring as deputy chief of the |
|
Southeast Patrol Division of the Dallas Police Department, drawing |
|
to a close a notable tenure in law enforcement that has spanned more |
|
than three decades; and |
|
WHEREAS, A Dallas native, Tammy Ellzey joined the Dallas |
|
Police Department in 1980 as a patrol officer in the Southwest |
|
Patrol Division; she was promoted to senior corporal with Crime |
|
Scene Investigations in 1985, and she became a detective three |
|
years later; in 1991, she attained the rank of sergeant and was made |
|
an administrative supervisor with the Investigations Bureau; |
|
promoted again in 1997, this time to lieutenant, she was then |
|
assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division, where she oversaw five |
|
different units, including those concerned with investigations and |
|
community policing; subsequently transferred to the Neighborhood |
|
Nuisance Response Unit, she went on to work with the Internal |
|
Affairs Division, the Youth Operations Unit, and the Fourth Watch |
|
Patrol; in addition, she served as commander of task forces |
|
involving four federal agencies: the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, |
|
Firearms and Explosives, the Office of National Drug Control |
|
Policy, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Drug Enforcement |
|
Administration; and |
|
WHEREAS, Deputy Chief Ellzey was promoted to her current rank |
|
and assigned again to the Southeast Patrol Division in 2010; under |
|
her leadership, the division has witnessed reduced crime and |
|
increased community involvement in crime prevention and other |
|
police department programs; the division has also recently produced |
|
a large proportion of the officers recognized with Medal of Valor, |
|
Outstanding Officer, Certificate of Merit, Officer of the Month, |
|
and Life Saving Awards; and |
|
WHEREAS, To further her expertise, this dynamic law |
|
enforcement agent has attended the United States Department of |
|
Justice Drug Unit Commanders Academy, Dallas Police Department |
|
Warrant and Basic Narcotics programs, Southwestern Legal |
|
Foundation Supervisory Management School, Bill Blackwood Law |
|
Enforcement Management Institute of Texas Leadership Command |
|
College, and FBI National Academy; in May 2013, she completed her |
|
bachelor's degree in criminal justice at Dallas Baptist University; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Frequently recognized for her outstanding service, |
|
Deputy Chief Ellzey has received 60 commendations and designation |
|
as Officer of the Month, as well as a 5 Year Firearm Marksmanship |
|
Award, 20 Year Safe Driving Award, 10 Year Perfect Attendance |
|
Award, and Shining Star Award; and |
|
WHEREAS, For 33 years, Deputy Chief Tammy Ellzey's |
|
dedication, professionalism, and commitment to protecting the |
|
safety and welfare of the public have greatly benefited the |
|
citizens of Dallas, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her |
|
accomplishments as she looks forward to the next exciting chapter |
|
of her life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 83rd Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Tammy Ellzey |
|
on her retirement as deputy chief of the Southeast Patrol Division |
|
of the Dallas Police Department and extend to her sincere best |
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Deputy Chief Ellzey as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
