A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to allow hunting on sundays with certain limitations.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. G.S. 103‑2 reads as rewritten:
"§ 103‑2. Hunting on Sunday.
(a) If any person shall, except in defense
of his own property, hunt on Sunday, having with him a shotgun, rifle, or
pistol, heA person may hunt with the use of firearms on Sunday except
that:
(1) Hunting of waterfowl on Sunday is prohibited.
(2) Hunting with dogs on Sunday is prohibited.
(3) Prior to 1 P.M. on Sunday, hunting within 250 yards of a church, synagogue, or other place of worship is prohibited.
(b) A person who hunts on Sunday in a manner
prohibited under subsection (a) of this section shall be guilty of a Class
3 misdemeanor. Provided, that the provisions hereof shall not beof
this section are not applicable to military reservations, the jurisdiction
of which is exclusively in the federal government, or to field trials
authorized by the Wildlife Resources Commission.Commission, or to
actions taken in defense of a person's property. Wildlife protectors are
granted authority to enforce the provisions of this section."
SECTION 2. Effective July 1, 2016, G.S. 103‑2(a)(3), as enacted in Section 1 of this act, reads as rewritten:
(3) Prior to 1 p.m. on Sunday, hunting within 2,500 feet of a church, synagogue, or other place of
worship is prohibited.Hunting on Sunday and
the manner of taking game on Sunday may be prohibited at certain times and in
certain locations by rule of the Wildlife Resources Commission."
SECTION 3. Section 2 of this act becomes effective July 1, 2016. The remainder of this act is effective when it becomes law.
