A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT to allow Emergency medical services personnel to carry and use pepper spray for self‑defense purposes.
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
SECTION 1. G.S. 143‑508(d) reads as rewritten:
"(d) The North Carolina Medical Care Commission shall adopt rules to do all of the following:
…
(8) Establish standards for vehicles and equipment used within the emergency medical services system. These standards shall not prohibit the carrying and use of pepper spray by emergency medical services personnel for self‑defense purposes.
…."
SECTION 2. G.S. 131E‑157(a) reads as rewritten:
"(a) The Commission shall adopt rules specifying equipment, sanitation, supply and design requirements for ambulances. These rules shall not prohibit the carrying and use of pepper spray by emergency medical services personnel for self‑defense purposes."
SECTION 3. This act is effective when it becomes law.
