A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to provide that an executive head at any private school funded exclusively with private funds and located in forsyth county may adopt a school policy to allow certain school employees to possess and carry a handgun on the educational property of the private school.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  Notwithstanding G.S. 14‑269.2, the executive head of any private school that is funded exclusively with private funds may adopt a school policy to allow an adult employee who has a concealed handgun permit issued in accordance with Article 54B of this Chapter or considered valid under G.S. 14‑415.24 to possess and carry a handgun on the educational property that is owned, used, or operated by the private school. The executive head of the private school may also establish additional criteria that must be satisfied before an employee may possess and carry a handgun on the private school's educational property and may adopt policies and rules to regulate the possession and carrying of the handgun while the employee is on the private school's educational property.

SECTION 2.  Notwithstanding G.S. 14‑269.2, an adult private school employee may possess and carry a handgun on the educational property of a private school pursuant to Section 1 of this act, provided the employee satisfies all of the following criteria:

(1)        Has a concealed handgun permit issued in accordance with Article 54B of this Chapter or considered valid under G.S. 14‑415.24.

(2)        Is in compliance with any additional criteria, policies, and rules adopted by the executive head of the private school regarding the possession and carrying of a handgun.

(3)        Is on the private school's educational property.

SECTION 3.  This act applies only to Forsyth County.

SECTION 4.  This act becomes effective December 1, 2015.
