  1  1    Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  147.85A  Inquiry about firearm
  1  2 ownership or possession prohibited.
  1  3    A person licensed to practice a profession under this
  1  4 chapter shall not inquire about or otherwise request
  1  5 information about a patient's or client's ownership or
  1  6 possession of firearms.
  1  7                           EXPLANATION
  1  8 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
  1  9 the explanation's substance by the members of the general assembly.
  1 10    This bill prohibits a person licensed under Code chapter 147
  1 11 (health=related professions) from inquiring about or otherwise
  1 12 requesting information about a patient's or client's ownership
  1 13 or possession of firearms. A person violating the bill is
  1 14 guilty of a serious misdemeanor. A serious misdemeanor is
  1 15 punishable by confinement for no more than one year and a fine
  1 16 of at least $315 but not more than $1,875.
  1 17    A person licensed under Code chapter 147 includes a
  1 18 physician and surgeon, podiatric physician, osteopathic
  1 19 physician and surgeon, physician assistant, psychologist,
  1 20 chiropractor, nurse, dentist, dental hygienist, dental
  1 21 assistant, optometrist, speech pathologist, audiologist,
  1 22 pharmacist, physical therapist, physical therapist assistant,
  1 23 occupational therapist, occupational therapy assistant,
  1 24 orthotist, prosthetist, pedorthist, respiratory care
  1 25 practitioner, practitioner of cosmetology arts and sciences,
  1 26 practitioner of barbering, funeral director, dietitian, marital
  1 27 and family therapist, mental health counselor, respiratory
  1 28 care and polysomnography practitioner, polysomnographic
  1 29 technologist, social worker, massage therapist, athletic
  1 30 trainer, acupuncturist, nursing home administrator, hearing aid
  1 31 specialist, or sign language interpreter or transliterator.
