SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Murray Ross Conzelman of Lake Forest, who
4passed away on January 6, 2015; and
5 WHEREAS, Murray Conzelman was born in Waukegan on November
62, 1929 to Murray Wilson and Jesse Edwards Conzelman; he
7graduated from Waukegan High School, Lake Forest College, and
8the Northwestern University School of Law; he married Barbara
9Vasey in 1955; and
10 WHEREAS, Murray Conzelman started practicing law in 1953;
11he was elected Alderman of the 7th Ward for the City of
12Waukegan at the age of 23 and is the youngest person to have
13ever been elected to that position; he was appointed by the
14Illinois Supreme Court to its Rules Committee and served in
15that capacity for many years; he was a founding member of the
16Jefferson Inn, an American Inn of Court; and
17 WHEREAS, Murray Conzelman was President of the Waukegan
18Jaycees, which awarded him its Distinguished Service Award and
19named him Man of the Year; he was President of the Lake County
20Bar Association in 1973 and the inaugural recipient of its
21President's Award in 1996; he served on boards for the Lake
22County Urban League, Barwell Homes, the Illinois St. Andrews

1Society, and Barat College; and
2 WHEREAS, Murray Conzelman was an avid St. Louis Cardinals
3fan and attended Cardinals' camp 5 times; and
4 WHEREAS, Murray Conzelman was preceded in death by his
5parents; his brother, John W. Conzelman, II; and his first
6wife, Barbara; and
7 WHEREAS, Murray Conzelman is survived by his wife, Gwen;
8his daughters, Anne (Craig) Linn, and their children, Nathan
9(Katrina Stidham), Alex, Mollie, and Jack Linn; Lesley (Ellen
10Schaller) Conzelman; and Carrie Conzelman; his step-children,
11Lori (Kent) Baker, and their children, Jesica (Matt) Jones,
12Alissa (John) McNicholas, Mary Gwen, and Madison Baker; Jim
13(Maxwell) Gregory, and their children, Royce, Meredith, and
14Mallory Gregory; his 7 great-grandchildren; and his brother,
15James Conzelman, and his family; therefore, be it
16 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Murray Ross Conzelman, and extend our sincere condolences to
19his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
21 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
