SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
20 ILCS 3855/1-126 new

Amends the Illinois Power Agency Act. Requires the Illinois Power Agency to update its response presented in the report titled "Potential Nuclear Power Plant Closings in Illinois". Also requires the Agency to update, in conjunction with the Illinois Commerce Commission, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, the report's findings regarding potential market-based solutions that will ensure the premature closure of these nuclear power plants does not occur and that the dire consequence to the economy, jobs, and the environment are averted. Provides that this provision is repealed on June 30, 2017. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT concerning State government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois Power Agency Act is amended by
5adding Section 1-126 as follows:
6 (20 ILCS 3855/1-126 new)
7 Sec. 1-126. Potential Nuclear Power Plant Closings in
8Illinois; updates. No later than June 30, 2016, the Agency
9shall update its response presented in the report titled
10"Potential Nuclear Power Plant Closings in Illinois", which was
11issued on January 5, 2015 in response to House Resolution 1146
12of the 98th General Assembly. Pursuant to the Resolution, the
13Agency examined how Illinois nuclear plant closures would
14affect reliability and the adequacy of generating capacity in
15the Midwest region. The Agency shall also update, in
16conjunction with the Illinois Commerce Commission, the
17Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, and the Illinois
18Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, the report's
19findings regarding potential market-based solutions that will
20ensure the premature closure of these nuclear power plants does
21not occur and that the dire consequence to the economy, jobs,
22and the environment are averted.
23 This Section shall be repealed on June 30, 2017.

1 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
2becoming law.
