2 | WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the | ||||||
3 | members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened | ||||||
4 | to learn of the death of Joyce Ann "Aisha" Ingram, who passed | ||||||
5 | away on July 8, 2015; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Aisha Ingram was born in Chicago on March 4, 1957 | ||||||
7 | to Eugene and Viola Handley; she attended Fernwood Elementary | ||||||
8 | and graduated from Harlan High School in 1975; she married | ||||||
9 | Walter "Mahir" Ingram on July 20, 1975; she earned her | ||||||
10 | bachelor's degree in business education in May of 1990 and her | ||||||
11 | master's degree in special education and teaching from Chicago | ||||||
12 | State University in 1997; in August of 2004, she received her
| ||||||
13 | second master's degree in educational administration and her | ||||||
14 | Type 75-Certification from Governors State
University; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Aisha Ingram worked as a work study coordinator | ||||||
16 | developing one of the largest
work study programs in Chicago | ||||||
17 | Public Schools; as a business finance educator and accounting | ||||||
18 | teacher for over 20
years, she fostered relationships with | ||||||
19 | businesses that offered employment opportunities to students | ||||||
20 | who in
turn loved her; she taught at Harlan High School, Simeon | ||||||
21 | High School, Fenger High School, and Julian
High School; she | ||||||
22 | worked in and always served in leadership
roles, including | ||||||
23 | Department Chair of the Education to Career Department of Percy |

the Instructional Leadership Team for | ||||||
2 | staff and curriculum development, teacher advocate of the | ||||||
3 | Chicago
Teachers Union, the Professional Personnel Leadership | ||||||

5 | Entrepreneurship, and the local school council; she sponsored | ||||||
6 | annual business entrepreneurship
student selling events, | ||||||
7 | annual business employee-employer banquets, career technical | ||||||
8 | education cooperative
education luncheons, field trips, job | ||||||
9 | shadowing, and internships; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Aisha Ingram fell in love with dance while in high | ||||||
11 | school and started taking African dance classes; she later
| ||||||
12 | became a member of Muntu Dance Theater, performing with Muntu | ||||||
13 | for over 20 years all over the world; she danced with Muntu in | ||||||
14 | the 90s at the PanaFest in
Ghana along with Public Enemy, Isaac | ||||||
15 | Hayes, and Jermaine Jackson; she was also featured in the
| ||||||
16 | February of 1993 issue of Ebony Magazine in an article entitled | ||||||
17 | "Professionals Who Moonlight as
Entertainers"; she recently | ||||||
18 | returned to Ghana in 2014 and was called to dance at the Cape | ||||||
19 | Coast/Elmina
Slave Castle; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Aisha Ingram was extremely creative and a master | ||||||
21 | braider; she started her own hair braiding business to
| ||||||
22 | supplement her income; and
| ||||||
23 | WHEREAS, Aisha Ingram was preceded in death by her mother, |

1 | Viola Handley; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Aisha Ingram is survived by her father, Eugene | ||||||
3 | Handley; her husband, Walter; her children, Tovis Ingram, Ari
| ||||||
4 | Ingram, and Micha'el Ingram; her brothers, Larry (Deborah) | ||||||
5 | Handley and Kenneth (Angelia) Handley; her sister,
"Khadeshah" | ||||||
6 | Marianne Gray; her nephews, Rosh and Khalil Handley, Anthony | ||||||
7 | and Christopher Peterson,
Devoy Boyd, and Malawchee, Yosawn, | ||||||
8 | Emawnuayl, and Ruvayn Gray; her nieces, Kinah Handley, La Dena

9 | Ingram, Karimiah (Awri) Mckee, and Y'Neekaw Gray; her | ||||||
10 | granddaughter, Amariyah Ingram (Ari Ingram
and Tangie Brooks); | ||||||
11 | and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; therefore, | ||||||

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
14 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
15 | mourn the passing of Joyce Ann "Aisha" Ingram, and extend our | ||||||
16 | sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
17 | and loved her; and be it further

18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to the family of Aisha Ingram as an expression of our | ||||||
20 | deepest sympathy.
