1		HOUSE RESOLUTION
2		WHEREAS, The Bloomingdale Public Library is celebrating
3		its 40th anniversary on June 9, 2015; and
4		WHEREAS, In January of 1974, the Village of Bloomingdale
5		established the "Friends of the Library" to promote a library
6		for Bloomingdale; and
7		WHEREAS, Within 6 months, the library was selected as an
8		"All-Star Library" by the Illinois Library Association;
9		statewide, only 4 libraries were so honored that year; and
10		WHEREAS, As Bloomingdale continued to grow, so did its need
11		for expanded library services; on May 3, 1981, ground was
12		broken for a 20,000 square foot library building; its doors
13		opened on July 15, 1982; and
14		WHEREAS, A 6-year study was conducted which led to the
15		creation of a building project designed to meet a 20-year plan
16		for library services to the community; plans were made to
17		expand and remodel the library and improve services, and on
18		September 7, 1995, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the
19		new addition; construction was completed in November of 1996
20		and a grand "reopening" reception was held on December 1, 1996;

1		WHEREAS, On June 9, 2005, the library was dedicated and
2		opened its doors with a collection of 4,500 adult and juvenile
3		books, a staff of 3, and over 30 volunteers providing 28 hours
4		of service each week; and
5		WHEREAS, The library continued to improve patron services
6		in 2013 by dedicating a new area of the library designated as
7		"The Think Tank" quiet zone, and reconfiguring the lower level
8		to better serve the children of Bloomingdale; and
9		WHEREAS, The library was selected as a "best library" in a
10		user poll conducted by West Suburban Living magazine for 2
11		years running; and
12		WHEREAS, The library continued to improve services to
13		Bloomingdale teens with the creation of an innovative new teen
14		space and created a New Materials area for adults in April of
15		2015; therefore, be it
16		RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17		NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18		congratulate the Bloomingdale Public Library on the occasion of
19		its 40th anniversary; and be it further
20		RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of the resolution be
