Amends the School Code. Requires a school board to prohibit teachers, school administrators, or other persons employed at a school, employed by the school or by a third party, from carrying a firearm on school grounds. Exempts safety personnel from the prohibition. Prohibits a school board from authorizing exceptions. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT concerning education.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections
510-31 and 34-18.78 as follows:
6 (105 ILCS 5/10-31 new)
7 Sec. 10-31. Prohibit employee firearms.
8 (a) For the purposes of this Section, "safety personnel"
9means a school resource officer, law enforcement officer, or
10security guard.
11 (b) Each school board shall prohibit teachers, school
12administrators, or other persons employed at a school,
13employed by the school or by a third party, from carrying
14firearms on school grounds. This prohibition does not apply to
15safety personnel.
16 (c) A school board may not authorize or permit any
17exception to or exemption from the prohibition.
