A BILL FOR AN ACT

relating to the university of hawaii.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that the University of Hawaii center on aging is committed to improving the quality of life of all older adults in Hawaii and has the ability to be recognized locally and nationally for research and education endeavors.  A permanent director and faculty specialist position with funding will better equip the center on aging in fulfilling its mission.  More specifically, these positions will enhance the center on aging's capacity in all three key areas of its mission:  to promote collaborative and interdisciplinary research within the university and other academic partners, develop innovative programs of interdisciplinary gerontological education and practice, and provide state-of-the-art information to policy makers, program managers, clinicians, and the general public.  With base funding and support the center on aging can expand, increase collaboration, conduct high quality research, and ensure a professional workforce is equipped to address a growing aging population.

The purpose of this Act is to fund a permanent director and a faculty specialist position within the University of Hawaii center on aging.

SECTION 2.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $97,356 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2015-2016 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2016-2017 to fund one full-time equivalent director of the University of Hawaii center on aging (1.0 FTE).

The sums appropriated shall be expended by the University of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3.  There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $85,176 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2015-2016 and the same sum or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2016-2017 to fund one full-time equivalent faculty specialist position (1.0 FTE) within the University of Hawaii center on aging.

The sums appropriated shall be expended by the University of Hawaii for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2015.
