   An act to amend Section 20001 of the Government Code, relating to
public employees' retirement.


	LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


   SB 1235, as introduced, De León. Public employees' retirement.
   The Public Employees' Retirement Law specifies that its purpose is
to provide a means for public employees who become superannuated or
otherwise incapacitated to be replaced by more capable employees and,
to that end, provide a retirement system consisting of retirement
compensation and death benefits.
   This bill would make a nonsubstantive change to those provisions.

   Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no.
State-mandated local program: no.


THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

  SECTION 1.  Section 20001 of the Government Code is amended to
read:
   20001.  The purpose of this part is to effect economy and
efficiency in the public service by providing a means 
whereby   by which  employees who become
superannuated or otherwise incapacitated may, without hardship or
prejudice, be replaced by more capable employees, and to that end
provide a retirement system consisting of retirement compensation and
death benefits.
