Mac is great

I took my sons with me to a class Mac was holding (because you know that an "expert" is someone who doesn't live under the same roof as you).

Mac gave a thorough safety brief without being boring and steadily ramped up from dry fire, live fire, steel, and finally a basic move and shoot scenario.

His training is first rate and his prices are reasonable (our class was free). Don't forget to bring water, the range is out in sticks a bit.

A Very Unsafe Place to Train

This range, its staff, some of its range safety officer's inexperience; the dual side-by-side range layout (with no safety berm in between the short and long range); the lack of attention to detail with following proper, consistent emergency procedures/set up/prep; the lack of instructor's giving consistent range commands (or even checking for the presence of safety equipment at the line of fire (every time); the lack of RSO's checking for safety violations (every time/every shooter = every time/every shooter); the 'pecking order' of 'this shooter has been here before (and is the senior instructor's girlfriend) so we will let them get away with a safety violation - safety OFF - but we will come down hard on the new people - do you know what kind of message that sends - Do you?); and the bravado/macho attitude ('Never quit even if it is unsafe!') of this range's instructor and senior staff are absolutely 100% accident-waiting-to-happen (and wait for it - it has). Lapses in judgement ABOUND at this range, and you do NOT want to be there when something unsafe occurs, which has happened and will undoubtedly and unfortunately happen again. The icing on the cake is the ego of the senior staff, "We are the best - our instructor is the best - our school is the safest - our techniques are the best - translation = we have no room for improvement" will be its absolute undoing. The range is hurting for money (cash flow problems) and in my opinion is cutting corners with its range safety (lack of attention to ALL THE DETAILS) and RSO prep. Very, very unfortunate. Finally, should you bring a potential safety issue to the instructor, as we did, it will be ignored, as our concern was. Minutes later there was an injury on the range that could have been avoided. DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS FACILITY. IT IS NOT SAFE.
