A Horrible Injustice In New Jersey
by DC Dalton on September 5, 2014
If you haven't heard the story yet a Pennsylvania single mother of two and a medical professional traveled into New Jersey carrying her legally licensed handgun (licensed in Pa). She had recently bought the handgun and gotten her license to carry after being robbed twice in the span of about a year.
Her mistake was she assumed her PA license was valid in NJ. She was stopped for a minor traffic violation (unsafe lane change) and informed the police officer that she had a gun and a license to carry it from her home state.
She was arrested and spent 40 days in jail before she was granted bail. She is now facing a mandatory 3 years in jail even though she has never been convicted of any crime before. There is also no evidence she intended to use the firearm for any purpose other than self protection. She has lost her job and can not find work because of the notoriety of the case.
The Atlantic county prosecutor, Jim McClain, has refused to allow Ms. Allen to enter New Jersey's diversion program for first time non-violent offenders, which Ms. Allen qualifies for.
